One of my greatest of great friends uses the term "overstand" often. I've heard it used by Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, Stephen Marley and others. Follow me, if you will. Whether you're a person of understanding or overstanding is totally on you.

We hear it all the time, especially in today's chaotic society. EVERYBODY "understands," or so, they say. "I understand!" "We understand!" "They understand!" "Under!" "Under!" "Under!" When will we get to a point of OVERstanding. Before you run to your dictionaries, let me say this: This is MY perception, MY perspective, and MY play on words, yet there is always method behind my madness.

To be under something, one must resign him/herself to the position of being under. To be under something, one must bend, bow, crouch, crawl, kneel, or genuflect to reside there. The only way to "stand" UNDER something is to raise that something on a pedestal high enough for standing head room. In order to OVERstand, one must rise above the circumstances or situations that everyone else is buckling under.

It is my opinion that the worldly are the understanders while the overstanders operate in a spiritual realm beyond the physical. True freedom of the mind, spirit, body and soul places you above the malarky and malignity of this world. The drama comes, as the understanders oppose, ridicule, and despise the overstanders. Think about it! Truth is the Tortoise and Lies are multitudes of Hares who run fast and rampant, yet NEVER win against Truth. Understanders who are content with only ever understanding (Pharisees/Religious Leaders, Race Supremacists, Lovers of themselves, money, and sex, and all else who choose this world over its Creator) will always attack, tear down, and sometimes murder overstanders (Martin Luther King Jr. & Malcolm X to name a couple). Thanks to my cousin Rodney, a few years ago, I was able to read learn more about MLK Jr's "Letter from Birmingham Jail." He addresses religious leaders who felt he was simply doing too much. Their approach to him was along the lines of a white friend saying to me, today, "Trust the system." Tragic comedy!

Often times, understanding friends and family of overstanders will claim that the overstanding friend and family member thinks he/she is better than everyone else. Overstanders know and abide by "Brothers and sisters, if someone is caught in a sin, you who live by the Spirit should restore that person gently. But watch yourselves, or you also may be tempted." Overstanders know that they must be mindful of how they fellowship with and approach understanders. Overstanders will find themselves alone and distanced, more often than not, even in crowded spaces.

In the place of Overstanding, there is only One Understanding. That Understanding is of Yahweh, Creator, Alpha & Omega.

Those who have ears to hear, let them hear.......

P.S. As Peter walked on water, he did not begin to sink until he took his focus off the mission of reaching his Creator, and gave into the circumstance of the sea.......
