I shared the attached picture yesterday, in memory of our dear friend, April (Leonard) King. As I sat looking through old pictures from my Camp Days, all I could think about is how ridiculous things are in our American Society. The racial tensions are tiring, and we continue to miss the point. What point, you may ask? The point is Jesus Christ, and what He was born, lived and died for.......LOVE! Love, unconditional! Love, unforgotten! Love, unbreakable! This picture is a picture of MY America.
By the time this picture was taken, I'm sure that each of us teenagers had already experienced some racial drama and traditions of the deep south. Yet, at camp, NONE of that stuff mattered or was even considered! When diagnosed with a chronic illness, that we'll likely be fighting for the remainder of our lives, the last things on our minds were the racial issues in Alabama, let alone America. Camp Seale Harris was a world apart, where we were the normal ones. The relationships and bonds formed there are eternal, plain and simple. In this picture, I see an America that should be available to all of us when we walk out of our homes every day!! In this picture, I see an America that has it right!! In this picture, I see the peace that SHOULD exist among all!
When you, an outsider of this world of which I speak, look at this picture, I'm sure you see white, black, and Arabic teenagers who look as though they like each other. Well, we FRIGGIN LOVE one another!! When I look at it, I see memories of friends, playing together, learning together, laughing together, praying together, and leading together. We even had blessings in Arabic, prayed over our food every now and then. Yes, Arabic, and it was ALL GOOD!! This picture represents My America, one aside from all the nonsense and division so many are striving for these days. I think, no, I KNOW at Camp Seale Harris, we had this Love thing down pat. That Love still exists between us all, even to this day. Love, true love, real love, is key to everlasting relationships. Jesus taught us the way, but obviously, many of us skipped school on that day.
"Jesus said, 'Let the little children come to Me, and do not hinder them, for the Kingdom of Heaven belongs to such as these.'" - Matthew 19:14-
Let our Teenage Love be an example to you all, this day! Unlearn hate! Unlearn division! Denounce traditions of racism! Return to Christ's class, as empty a vessel as a child, and learn Love!!
Those who have ears, let them hear.......
