This morning, as I prepped for my day, "the formula" came to mind. This thought is in reference to church; not the Church of Acts, but the churches we've created for ourselves under the divisions and disagreements of denominations. I've attended several churches in my years of life on this planet, and many of them have a "formula", if you will, of how to become ministers of the Word or disciples of Christ. This is not to down anyone's religion or beliefs. I'm just expressing a thought that struck me this morning as I brushed my teeth, looking at me in the mirror.
Today, it is believed by many, that without degrees and Ph.D's in ministry, one cannot be a preacher, minister, or pastor. We look for credentials before we accept a person as a spiritual leader. This is one formula that has been presented to me, when discussing desires for ministry with pastors and ministers I looked up to in younger years. There are others who presented gauntlets of righteousness that were required, even prior to determining if I were truly called to minister. These formulas never went over well will me, as none of what was being presented was Biblical.
Yes, education is a must and is needed for any of us to understand, communicate and effectively relay information. Education often prevents ignorance and the spread of certain evils. Yet, again, God trumps all. Think about it! Think about the disciples, simple men, yet Conquerors for Christ. They knew Jesus, spent intimate moments with Him, followed Him, studied Him, and when the time came, they preached Him and shared Him with the world. Simply put, the formula, if there should be one, is Jesus Christ. Study Him! Study His life! Study His actions, His Love, His compassion, and His Instruction! No one gets into the Kingdom, except through Him. Now, if I were called to provide a "formula" of more than "simply Jesus", it would look like this:
(Matthew 6:33 - pride) + Jesus + Mark 12:29 thru 31 = A Great Start
When you seek His Kingdom and commit your life to the ways, teachings, and love of Christ, the Way is made clear. Ministry takes place all around us every day. Ministry happens more outside the four walls of our Sunday meeting places than anywhere. The lost don't necessarily decide that they'll just go to church at some point. Jesus meets them where they are. In this day and age, He does this through us! When God places it in your heart to do, do it. You may not consider yourself qualified, but what God gives you comes with automatic approval and qualification. Your life should be your living testimony to God and His power given you by Christ Jesus. When God calls you, simply answer. He will lead the way.
