How many of you remember Apache Chief? Do you remember the pure excitement you'd feel when he said those words (I'm not even gonna try spelling them.) and he'd become a giant and start kicking butt? The power in those un-spellable words was amazing right? Well, there is another Word, a name in fact, that is the greatest and most powerful of all. "Jesus" is that name. Who is Jesus? John tells us in his book, "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through Him all things were made; without Him nothing was made that has been made.In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. There was a man sent from God whose name was John. He came as a witness to testify concerning that light, so that through him all might believe. He himself was not the light; he came only as a witness to the light. The true light that gives light to everyone was coming into the world. He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him. He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him. Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God—children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God. The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth."
The name "Jesus" is God's Word made flesh; that same Word which spoke light and life into existence. POWERFUL!! Going even further into this Word, this Jesus, Peter tells us in Acts 4, "It is by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified but whom God raised from the dead, that this man stands before you healed. Jesus is “‘the stone you builders rejected, which has become the cornerstone.’ Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.” No other name can do, give, and accomplish what Jesus can.
Sam Cooke, I'll say, is who motivated this post this morning. His song, "Touch the hem of His garment" was playing and all I could think about is the story, the scripture from which Sam drew this song. In case you're unfamiliar, be it here: "Now a certain woman had a flow of blood for twelve years, 26 and had suffered many things from many physicians. She had spent all that she had and was no better, but rather grew worse. When she heard about Jesus, she came behind Him in the crowd and touched His garment. For she said, “If only I may touch His clothes, I shall be made well.” Immediately the fountain of her blood was dried up, and she felt in her body that she was healed of the affliction. And Jesus, immediately knowing in Himself that power had gone out of Him, turned around in the crowd and said, “Who touched My clothes?” But His disciples said to Him, “You see the multitude thronging You, and You say, ‘Who touched Me?’” And He looked around to see her who had done this thing. But the woman, fearing and trembling, knowing what had happened to her, came and fell down before Him and told Him the whole truth. And He said to her, “Daughter, your faith has made you well. Go in peace, and be healed of your affliction.” The faith of this woman was amazing. Think about it. It was illegal for a person with her illness to be around healthy and well people. Her faith pushed her to breaking the law to receive a miracle from Jesus whom she simply "heard" was coming by.
Knowing these things, believing these things of our Bibles to true, I ask the following questions. How's your faith? What's the quality of your faith? How deep, far, low or high are you willing to go for Jesus? Is your faith strong enough to see beyond the chaos and confusion caused by social norms, politics, emotions, ego, and opinions? The greatest power you will ever know is that which comes to us through Jesus Christ. In terms of facing trials, tribulations, and giants, David said it best, "You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the Lord Almighty, God of the armies of Israel whom you have defied." There is power in the name of Jesus! Today's daily scripture on youversion is even "Jesus looked at them and said, 'With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.'"
Let today be a day of POWER for you. Mention the name Jesus to your troubles, trials, and adversaries. Speak Jesus over your own hearts and minds, so that peace can be found in you, your heart, and your mind as you face the day and all it's surprises. There have been times in my life when simply calling on His name, has removed trouble from my body and soul. If there is a starting point to a great life, a spiritual life, a better life, it's Jesus. If you have had questions about church, what it's all about, what it all means, I suggest starting with Jesus. Read up on His life, His instruction and His love. He is the clear example of what God desires of each of us.
Speak Jesus and become better, stronger, and the greatest you've ever been.
Those who have ears, let them hear.......
